A used Victorian Pre WW1 British Officers Wilkinson Sword Brigadier General Lovett. This sword belonged to Brigadier General Alfred Crowdy Lovet 1863-1919. Overall this sword is in excellent condition with some minor patina blade.  The hilt has some heavy patina. On the blade there is excellent etching. The hand guard has a Victorian Crown on it, but the blade has the kings crown etched into it. Blade length is approx 32 inches long. Overall this sword is in excellent condition, but there is door ding on the scabbard as well as heavy pitting in areas. The initials ACL (Alfred Crowdy Lovett) are etched into the blade along with other artwork. This sword is Wilkinson made. Brigadier General Lovett joined the British Army (Sandhurst) in 1881 and served until his death in 1919 after a short illness. Throughout Lovetts career he served with the Gloucestershire Regiment, as well as an Instructor and CO at the Royal Military College Sandhurst. During the First World War Lovett commanded the 1st Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment during the opening stages and the Retreat from Mons, where he was MID in October 1914. He would later be promoted to Colonel, then temporary Brigadier in Sept 1916. After being Invalided home in 1917 Lovett was placed in command of the East Lancashire Brigade, Yorkshire Coast Defences.  No surviving WW1 records exists for Lovett, but he is mentioned several times in War Diaries. Lovett died on May 27 1919 at the age of 57 and is commemorated by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. Comes complete with additional research
