Allan Chester Hull CMM DFC CD was born in Edinburgh Scotland, Son of Air Commodore Allan H Hull and Mrs Hull. He was educated at Vancouver and at the RMC Kingston. He joined the Cameron Highlanders of Ottawa in 1932-1936 and then enrolled in RMC and graduated in 1939 which is when he joined the RCAF. He qualified as a pilot and was a flying instructor in Canada until 1943 when he went overseas and was posted to 420 Sqn and then 428 Sqn. After surviving flying Lancasters against Stuttgart, Duisburg, Edmden and Dortmund WC Hull was awarded the DFC for skill and Valour. He later became Senior Operations Control for 6 Group and was promosted to Group Captain at the age of 25. When he returned to Canada he was given the French CdG with Silver Star for his assistance in support of Free French Forces. In 1972 he was appointed Vice Chief of Defence Staff with the rank of Lt General. After 41 years he retired with this rank in 1974. Thank Will for the information
