The WW2 US USAAF Type B-11 Flight Jacket was standard issue for United States Army Air Forces aircrew personnel during the latter part of the Second World War. Manufactured from olive drab cotton twill, the jacket features a full alpaca lining for insulation in cold weather conditions encountered at high altitude. The B-11 is distinguished by its zippered front closure, covered by a buttoned wind flap, a fur-trimmed hood, and adjustable drawstrings at the waist and hood for improved protection against wind and cold. Additional features include knit cuffs and a pair of large, flapped front pockets suitable for gloves or small equipment. This example is marked as size 40, indicating it was intended for medium to large build airmen. The Type B-11 replaced earlier leather flight jackets and represents a significant advance in the evolution of USAAF cold weather gear during World War II.
