The WW2 US Army Combat Infantryman’s Badge Sterling is an original military insignia awarded to United States Army infantry personnel during the Second World War. Instituted in 1943, the badge was designed to recognize the active participation and combat service of infantrymen during ground combat operations. Constructed of sterling silver, this badge features an infantry musket on a rectangular bar with an oak leaf wreath, symbolizing valor and service. The reverse is typically marked “Sterling” to indicate the silver content, and may also bear a pin-back fastener for attachment to a uniform. Eligibility was restricted to members of the infantry and later, certain other ground force soldiers directly engaged in hostile action. The Combat Infantryman’s Badge served as a visible acknowledgment of frontline service during one of the most significant military conflicts of the twentieth century. This item reflects the history and tradition of US Army combat service during World War II.
