The WW2 US American Defense Service Medal Full Size is an official United States military decoration awarded to service members who participated in qualifying defense activities between September 8, 1939, and December 7, 1941. The obverse of the medal features a female figure symbolizing defense, standing before a shield and sword, with the words “American Defense.” The reverse displays the words “For Service During the Limited Emergency Proclaimed by the President on September 8, 1939 or During the Unlimited Emergency Proclaimed by the President on May 27, 1941.” The medal is suspended from a yellow ribbon with red, white, and blue stripes at the edges, reflecting the national colors. This full-size example is housed in its original issue box. The American Defense Service Medal was established by Executive Order 8808 and was intended to recognize those who served honorably during the early years of World War II, prior to the United States’ direct involvement in the conflict.
