WW2 German Mothers Cross In Bronze

The WW2 German Mothers Cross in Bronze, officially known as the Ehrenkreuz der Deutschen Mutter, was instituted on December 16, 1938, by the German government. This decoration was awarded to mothers as a form of recognition for their contributions to the nation through childbearing and upbringing. The bronze grade, represented here, was presented to mothers with four or five children. The cross is constructed of a bronze-plated alloy and features a blue and white enamel surface with a central medallion displaying a black swastika encircled by the words “Der Deutschen Mutter.” The design includes a distinctive flared cross with sunburst rays between the arms and is suspended from a blue and white ribbon intended to be worn around the neck. This award reflects the social policies of the era, which placed a strong emphasis on family and population growth. The reverse of the medal is typically marked with the date of institution, “16 Dezember 1938.”
