The WW2 German Iron Cross Spange B.H. Mayer Type B is a military decoration awarded to Wehrmacht personnel who had previously received the Iron Cross 2nd Class during World War I and were awarded the same class again in World War II. The Spange (clasp) was worn above the 1914 Iron Cross ribbon to denote the repeat award. The B.H. Mayer Type B variant is attributed to the well-known Pforzheim-based medal manufacturer, B.H. Mayer. Characteristic features include a two-piece construction with a silvered metal eagle clutching a swastika above a bar bearing the year “1939,” attached to the ribbon by a pin. The reverse side is typically fitted with four prongs for ribbon attachment. The design reflects the standardized pattern introduced in May 1939. These clasps were widely issued and are a recognizable component of German military awards from the period. The Type B designation refers to specific design features documented in collector reference works.
