The WW2 German Coastal Artillery Breast Eagle is an insignia issued to members of the Kriegsmarine coastal artillery units during the Second World War. This breast eagle features a stylized, outstretched German eagle clutching a swastika, with wings extended horizontally. The design typically uses a dark green or field-grey cloth background, with the eagle and swastika embroidered in yellow thread, denoting its association with coastal artillery personnel. The breast eagle was sewn onto the service tunic above the right breast pocket and served as a symbol of identity and distinction within the German armed forces. Coastal artillery units were responsible for defending Germany’s coastline, ports, and naval installations from enemy incursions and bombardments. The distinctive color of the embroidery helped differentiate these troops from other branches, such as infantry or armored units. Surviving examples are of interest to military historians, collectors, and researchers studying German World War II military insignia.
