The Italy Star is a British Commonwealth campaign medal awarded for operational service during the Second World War in Italy and surrounding areas. This full-size version is officially recognized and issued to Canadian forces members who served in the Italian campaign between 11 June 1943 and 8 May 1945, including operations in Sicily and mainland Italy, as well as in neighboring territories. The medal is a six-pointed star made of yellow copper zinc alloy, measuring 44 mm in height and 38 mm in width. The obverse features the royal cypher “GRI VI” (for King George VI) encircled by a band bearing the inscription “THE ITALY STAR.” The distinctive ribbon consists of equal stripes of red, white, green, and red, symbolizing the national colors of Italy. This example provides a tangible link to the Canadian military participation in the Italian campaign during World War II. No engravings or issue numbers are present, in accordance with original specifications.
