The WW2 Canadian The Italy Star Full Size is a British campaign medal awarded to Canadian and Commonwealth military personnel for operational service in the Italian Campaign between 11 June 1943 and 8 May 1945. The medal is a six-pointed star made of yellow copper zinc alloy, measuring approximately 44 mm in height and 38 mm in width. The obverse features the Royal Cypher “GRI VI” surmounted by a crown, and encircled by the inscription “THE ITALY STAR.” The reverse is plain. The award is suspended from a ribbon with equal stripes of red, white, green, white, and red, symbolizing the colors of Italy and the campaign’s Allied nationality. Recipients qualified through service in specified operational areas in Italy, Sicily, Greece, Yugoslavia, and surrounding territories during the stated period. The Italy Star is an important recognition of the contribution made by Canadian forces in the Mediterranean theatre during the Second World War.
