The France and Germany Star is a campaign medal instituted by the British Commonwealth in May 1945 to recognize operational service during the Second World War. This full-size example issued to Canadian forces is housed in its original box. The medal is a six-pointed yellow copper zinc alloy star, bearing the Royal Cypher “GRVI” and the inscription “THE FRANCE AND GERMANY STAR” on the obverse. The ribbon features vertical stripes in blue, red, and white, symbolizing the colors of the Allied forces. Eligibility for the France and Germany Star required operational service in France, Belgium, the Netherlands, or Germany between 6 June 1944 (D-Day) and 8 May 1945 (VE Day). This medal holds historical significance as a representation of Canadian military participation in the Western European campaigns of WWII. The inclusion of the original box supports the authenticity and preservation of the piece.
