The WW2 Canadian The Defence Medal Full Size is a campaign medal awarded to recognize non-operational military and select civilian service in the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth territories during World War II. Instituted in 1945, the medal was presented to Canadian personnel who served in eligible areas, including coastlines and designated overseas territories, between 3 September 1939 and 2 September 1945. Crafted in cupro-nickel, the full-size medal features the effigy of King George VI on the obverse, with the reverse displaying two lions flanking an upright sword and an oak tree, symbolizing defense and strength. The accompanying ribbon is green with a central orange stripe, bordered by narrow black stripes, representing the enemy attacks and fire, sandwiched between peace and agricultural land. The medal was issued unnamed to Canadians. It is a significant artifact for collectors of Canadian and Allied World War II militaria, exemplifying home and civil defense contributions during the conflict.
