This is a pair of World War II-era Canadian Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) tropical officer’s slip-on insignia, denoting the rank of Wing Commander. The slip-ons are constructed from khaki-colored fabric, suitable for wear with tropical uniforms used in warmer climates. Each insignia displays the rank insignia consistent with a Wing Commander: three narrow blue bands interspaced with two wider blue bands, stitched horizontally, and Sewn above the rank are embroidered RCAF albatross wings and a crown in colored thread. These slip-ons were worn on the epaulettes of tropical service dress by officers of the RCAF, indicating authority and branch affiliation. The use of slip-on epaulette insignia allowed for easy attachment and removal, conforming to uniform regulations of the period. Such items formed part of the official dress for RCAF personnel deployed to Commonwealth and overseas theaters with tropical climates during the Second World War.
