The WW2 Canadian CVSM Ribbon Bar represents the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, awarded to members of the Canadian forces who voluntarily served during the Second World War. Instituted in 1943, the CVSM recognized a minimum of 18 months of voluntary service in the Canadian Army, Royal Canadian Navy, Royal Canadian Air Force, or merchant navy between 3 September 1939 and 1 March 1947. The ribbon consists of a central green stripe bordered on each side by narrower red, dark blue, and yellow stripes, reflecting the colors of the different branches of service. This ribbon bar was worn on the uniform to denote the award when the full medal was not displayed. Measuring approximately 32 mm in width, this item is an example of official Canadian military insignia from the Second World War era, used in recognition of an individual’s commitment and service during the global conflict.
