The WW2 Canadian Chaplain Medium Size Button is an original uniform component from the era of the Second World War, used by chaplains serving in the Canadian military. This brass button measures approximately 22mm in diameter, classified as “medium size,” and would have typically been affixed to the tunics or service dress of chaplain corps personnel. The design features a central motif of the Latin cross, reflecting the spiritual role of the chaplain, surrounded by a decorative border. The reverse of the button is fitted with a shank for sewing onto uniforms, and may bear the maker’s mark or manufacturer’s information, common on Canadian military buttons of this period. Such buttons were issued as part of standard uniform insignia, serving both functional and identificatory purposes within the Canadian Armed Forces during the 1939–1945 conflict. These items represent both military and ecclesiastical history as part of the standard kit for service chaplains.
