The WW2 Canadian 1939 to 1945 War Medal was a campaign medal awarded to personnel of the Canadian armed forces and merchant navy who served full-time during the Second World War between 3 September 1939 and 2 September 1945. The medal is made of cupro-nickel and measures 36mm in diameter. The obverse features the crowned effigy of King George VI with the Latin inscription “GEORGIVS VI D:G:BR:OMN:REX ET INDIAE IMP.” On the reverse, the design includes a lion standing on a double-headed dragon, representing the Axis powers. The ribbon is 32mm wide with red, blue, and white stripes symbolizing the colors of the British flag. This example is offered in its original box of issue and is a full-size medal. The WW2 Canadian War Medal recognized general service in a theater of war and remains a significant artifact of Canada’s military history during the conflict.
