The WW2 Canadian 1939 to 1945 War Medal is a campaign medal issued to eligible members of the Canadian Armed Forces and merchant seamen who served full-time for at least 28 days between 3 September 1939 and 2 September 1945, the official period of the Second World War. The medal is made of cupro-nickel, measures approximately 36mm in diameter, and features the crowned effigy of King George VI on the obverse. The reverse displays a lion standing on a double-headed dragon, symbolizing the defeat of the enemies of the Allies. The attached ribbon consists of narrow red edge stripes with a central band of blue flanked by white stripes, representing the colours of the Union Jack. This item is presented in its original box, as issued at the time. The 1939 to 1945 War Medal remains an important piece of Canadian military history, recognizing service during the global conflict.
