The 1939–1945 War Medal is a full-size campaign decoration awarded to members of the Canadian and Commonwealth armed forces who served during the Second World War. This example comes in its original box, as issued. The medal consists of a circular cupro-nickel disc, measuring approximately 36mm in diameter. The obverse displays the crowned effigy of King George VI, while the reverse features a lion standing astride a double-headed dragon, symbolizing the defeat of the Axis powers, with the dates “1939” and “1945” beneath. The ribbon is distinctive, featuring stripes of red, blue, and white, representing the colors of the Union Flag. Eligibility for this medal required at least 28 days of full-time operational or non-operational service during the qualifying period of 3 September 1939 to 2 September 1945. The presence of the original box enhances its historical value and authenticity as a collectible military item.
