This is a matching pair of World War I United States Army Expeditionary Forces (AEF) Corporal rank insignia. These insignia were used by enlisted personnel to designate the rank of Corporal during the period of American involvement in the First World War, from 1917 to 1918. Each insignia is constructed of olive drab wool felt, cut in the form of two chevrons, and is intended for wear on the upper sleeve of the service uniform. The design reflects standard issue patterns used throughout the conflict by U.S. forces serving overseas. Subtle variations in stitching and material may be present due to wartime production from multiple contractors. Such insignia played a key role in indicating authority and differentiating rank among enlisted soldiers within the chain of command. This set offers a representative example of the non-commissioned officer insignia worn by the AEF during World War I.  Please note there is some minor moth damage around the edges.
