The WW1 Imperial German Prussian Spiked Helmet, known as the Pickelhaube, is a distinctive military headgear issued to German forces during the First World War. This example, dated 1914, was originally issued to troops of the Kingdom of Prussia. Constructed from leather with a metal spike affixed to the crown, the helmet features metal front and rear visors, as well as brass or steel trim characteristic of wartime production. The front bears the Prussian eagle plate, a standard insignia of the period. This particular helmet includes a replaced chin strap, a common field modification due to wear during active service. The interior retains much of its original liner, showing expected signs of use consistent with its age. The date marking confirms its early-war manufacture. The Pickelhaube remained in widespread use in the German Army until the introduction of the Stahlhelm in 1916, which offered improved protection for soldiers.
