The WW1 Imperial German Mutze Badge is a historical military insignia associated with the German Empire during the First World War. Worn on the front of the traditional “Mutze” or field cap, this badge denoted the soldier’s allegiance and unit affiliation. Typically crafted from stamped metal—commonly brass, zinc, or alloy—the badge often features the imperial German cockade, consisting of concentric circles in black, white, and red, representing national colors. Variations existed depending on regiment and region, with some including additional motifs or decorative elements. The badge was secured to the cap by prongs or a pin attachment on the reverse. These insignia played both a practical and symbolic role within the Imperial German Army, facilitating identification while also reinforcing unit cohesion. Today, authentic examples provide valuable insight into military dress regulations and personal equipment during the period of 1914–1918.
