The WW1 Imperial German Model 1884/98 2nd Pattern Bayonet with Scabbard is a standard-issue edged weapon produced for the German infantry during the First World War. This bayonet is a development of the earlier Model 1871, designed to be compatible with the Gewehr 98 service rifle. The 2nd Pattern is characterized by its fullered, single-edged blade measuring approximately 10 inches in length, with a straight steel crossguard and a muzzle ring for secure attachment to the rifle. The grip panels are typically constructed from wood, secured with steel rivets. The accompanying steel scabbard is blued or painted for corrosion resistance and features a frog stud for belt attachment. Issued widely from 1915 onwards, the Model 1884/98 2nd Pattern was used throughout World War I and continued to see service into the interwar period.
