The WW1 Canadian CEF Ross Rifle Bayonet and Scabbard is a military edged weapon originally issued to Canadian forces during the First World War. Designed specifically for use with the Ross Rifle, the bayonet features a single-edged steel blade, typically measuring approximately 17 inches in length, with a sharpened tip suitable for thrusting. The hilt is constructed with a ribbed wooden grip, secured by standard rivets, and a steel pommel with a push-button release mechanism compatible with the Ross rifle mounting system. The included metal scabbard is fitted with a steel throat and chape, and is often marked with manufacturers’ stamps and inspection markings. These bayonets were standard issue for the Canadian Expeditionary Force (CEF) and were used in both training and combat throughout the war. The design reflects the practical requirements of trench warfare, and examples often display the wear typical of field use during WW1 service.
