The WW1 Canadian CEF 230th Battalion Cap Badge is a historical military insignia issued to members of the 230th Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force during the First World War. Formed in 1916, the 230th Battalion was primarily composed of recruits from Ottawa, Ontario, and the surrounding region. The badge is typically made of brass and features the battalion’s number “230” prominently at the center, surrounded by a wreath of maple leaves and surmounted by a king’s crown, reflecting the unit’s allegiance to the British Empire. Standard fastening fixtures are present on the reverse for attachment to uniform headwear. Cap badges served both as a symbol of regimental identity and as a means of differentiating between units within the CEF. The 230th Battalion was later absorbed into reserve battalions in England and did not see action as a separate unit in France. This artifact represents a piece of Canadian military heritage from the Great War era.
