The WW1 Canadian CEF 18 Pattern Leather Waist Belt was standard issue for members of the Canadian Expeditionary Force during the First World War. Introduced in 1915, the 18 Pattern belt was constructed from durable brown leather and featured a single-prong brass buckle for secure fastening. Designed as part of the 1914 Pattern webbing equipment, it provided support for other gear, such as ammunition pouches, a bayonet, water bottle, and entrenching tool. Measuring approximately 45 to 48 inches in length, the belt included multiple adjustment holes to fit different waist sizes. The leather was typically stamped with government markings, unit assignments, or manufacturer details. The 18 Pattern belt remained in use throughout the war and saw continued service into the post-war period until replaced by later models. This item offers insight into the equipment carried by Canadian soldiers serving on the Western Front and in other theatres during WW1.
