This is an original World War I British Expeditionary Force Welsh Regiment officer’s large tunic button. Manufactured in the early 20th century, this button would have been part of the service dress uniform issued to officers of the Welsh Regiment during the First World War. The button is made from gilt brass and features a high-relief design incorporating the Prince of Wales’s feathers, coronet, and “Ich Dien” scroll, which is the traditional emblem associated with the regiment. Measuring approximately 26mm in diameter, it was typically fastened to the front of the officer’s service tunic. The reverse is marked with the maker’s name, a common characteristic of period British military buttons. Such items were standard issue and serve as representative examples of British military insignia from the era. This button is of interest to collectors of militaria and those studying British Army uniforms and regimental history during the First World War.
