The WW1 British BEF SMLE Bayonet with Scabbard, dated 1917, is an original example of the standard-issue bayonet used by British Expeditionary Force troops during the First World War. Designed for the Short Magazine Lee-Enfield (SMLE) rifle, this bayonet features a single-edged, fullered blade with an overall length typical of the Pattern 1907 model. The wooden grips are secured by two screws, and manufacturer markings, along with the 1917 date, are present on the ricasso. The steel scabbard, fitted with a leather body and metal fittings, was intended for belt attachment and field use. Bayonets of this type saw widespread service on the Western Front and in other theaters of the war. The 1917 date corresponds to a period of heavy production to meet wartime demand. Collectors value such items for their direct association with British infantry equipment of the era.
