The WW1 British BEF Royal Gloucestershire Hussars Imperial Yeomanry Cap Badge is a metal insignia issued to members of the Royal Gloucestershire Hussars during the First World War. The badge features the regimental emblem, typically comprising a crowned garter inscribed with “Royal Gloucestershire Hussars,” surrounding a sphinx above the title scroll, reflecting the unit’s historical service in Egypt. Made from brass or bi-metal, the badge was designed to be worn on the service dress cap as part of the British Expeditionary Force uniform. The reverse was commonly fitted with lugs or a slider for attachment. The Royal Gloucestershire Hussars served as a Yeomanry cavalry regiment, participating in various campaigns including the Western Front and the Middle East. Cap badges such as this example were not only functional uniform items but also served as symbols of regimental identity within the British Army during the period of 1914–1918.
