This item is a matched pair of World War I British Army Royal Corps of Signals shoulder titles, as issued to the British Expeditionary Force (BEF). The shoulder titles were worn on the upper uniform sleeves to identify the soldier’s corps. Each title is crafted in metal with “ROYAL CORPS OF SIGNALS” in raised lettering, following the design regulations introduced after the Corps was formed in 1920; however, these titles often replaced earlier versions and are closely associated with late-WWI and early interwar period uniforms. The insignia feature attachment lugs on the reverse for fitting to fabric. The Royal Corps of Signals was responsible for military communications, playing a key logistical role during operations. Such titles were standard issue for soldiers serving in communications functions and are representative of the British Army’s evolving approach to battlefield signaling during and after the First World War. This pair is suitable for reference, study, or display.
