The WW1 British BEF Black Watch Cap Badge is a metal insignia worn by members of the Royal Highland Regiment, commonly known as the Black Watch, during the First World War. This badge features the distinctive design of a large star with St. Andrew’s cross at its center, surmounted by a crown. Within the cross, the figure of St. Andrew holding his cross is prominently displayed, a symbol strongly associated with Scottish heritage and the regiment’s identity. The badge is typically constructed from brass or white metal and is designed to be affixed to the front of the soldier’s headdress, known as the glengarry or Tam o’ Shanter. Issued to soldiers serving with the British Expeditionary Force (BEF) between 1914 and 1918, the cap badge served both as a means of regimental identification and a source of pride for the servicemen. Its design has remained largely unchanged in subsequent versions.
