US Army Vietnam Shelter Half Pup Tent

The US Army Vietnam Shelter Half Pup Tent is a standard-issue field tent used extensively by American forces during the Vietnam War era. Produced from durable, olive drab canvas, each shelter half forms one side of the completed tent. Two soldiers would each carry one half and, when joined together using provided eyelets and buttons, the components create a compact, waterproof shelter suitable for temporary field use. The design includes reinforced edges, tie-downs, and loops for attaching guy lines and securing to stakes. Poles and pegs, typically made from wood or aluminum, are required for proper setup and are included with many examples. Ventilation is provided by simple flap openings. The pup tent is known for its portability and effectiveness in varied climates, aligning with US military needs for lightweight, mobile shelter solutions during ground operations in Vietnam. This item reflects the standard field equipment used by infantry across multiple campaigns during the conflict.
