The Canadian Governor General’s Horse Guards 1912 Pattern Cavalry Officer’s Sword is a historically significant edged weapon issued to officers of Canada’s senior reserve armored regiment. This example follows the British 1912 Cavalry pattern, featuring a straight, single-edged stainless steel blade with a spear point, optimized for thrusting. The guard is of the typical bowl form, decorated with pierced scrolling incorporating the royal cypher. The grip is finished in chequered black composite with a steel backstrap. Included with this sword are period-appropriate sword slings for suspension from a dress belt and a bullion sword knot traditionally used for securing the weapon to the wrist. These elements together reflect the full ceremonial accoutrement used by officers of the regiment in the early twentieth century. The 1912 pattern remained a standard model for cavalry units of the Commonwealth into the mid-twentieth century and is associated with both parade and active service contexts.
