Canadian Forces DND Issue Ashtray Aluminum

The Canadian Forces DND Issue Ashtray Aluminum is a utilitarian item produced for use within facilities operated by the Department of National Defence (DND) of Canada. Manufactured from lightweight aluminum, this ashtray was commonly found in mess halls, canteens, and various establishments associated with the Canadian military. Its design typically features a shallow bowl for collecting ash and cigarette butts, with notches along the rim to securely rest cigarettes. The robust construction and material provide resistance to heat and corrosion, aligning with the practical requirements of military service environments. Markings may include government issue numbers or DND identification, serving as evidence of its official use. This ashtray reflects standard-issue equipment supplied to Canadian Forces personnel during the mid to late 20th century. As regulations and attitudes toward smoking shifted, such items became less prevalent within military facilities, making surviving examples notable artifacts of Canadian military and institutional history.
