The Canadian Forces Decoration (CD) is a long service medal awarded to members of the Canadian Forces who have completed twelve years of service. This example is a full-size medal named to Corporal J. Fox. The decoration consists of a cupro-nickel disc with the obverse featuring the crowned effigy of Queen Elizabeth II and the reverse displaying a maple leaf with the inscription “SERVICE.” The medal is suspended from a distinctive red and white ribbon. Named medals such as this are impressed on the edge with the recipient’s rank and name, in this case “CPL J. FOX,” providing historical continuity and personal attribution. Established in 1949, the CD remains the most widely awarded medal in the Canadian Honors System for regular and reserve personnel. Items like this are valued as original artifacts relating to Canadian military history and service recognition during the postwar period to the present.
