British Metropolitan Special Constabulary Cap Badge

The British Metropolitan Special Constabulary Cap Badge is an official insignia worn by members of the Special Constabulary in London’s Metropolitan Police. This badge typically features the Metropolitan Police’s distinctive emblem, including the royal cipher, encircled by the words “Metropolitan Special Constabulary.” The design reflects the formal association with the Metropolitan Police Service and signifies the wearer’s status as a volunteer officer. Produced in various metals depending on the period, the badge is designed for attachment to the regulation police cap. The Special Constabulary is a part-time, volunteer division that has supported regular police forces since its establishment in the early 20th century, especially during periods of heightened national demand such as wartime or civil emergencies. This cap badge serves both as a functional element of the uniform and as an identifying symbol for special constables within the broader policing structure of London. Its features and materials may vary, reflecting changes in design across different eras.
