The WW2 German Army Wehrpass is an official military identification booklet issued to personnel of the German Army (Heer) during the Second World War. Introduced in 1936, the Wehrpass served as a comprehensive personal record, documenting an individual’s military service, training, and assignments. Typically bound in a grayish-blue cover, the Wehrpass contains pages detailing the holder’s personal information, physical description, next of kin, and a chronological record of enlistment, promotions, units served, qualifications, as well as periods of leave or wounds incurred. The document often includes official stamps, handwritten entries, and occasionally, attached photographs. Wehrpässe were an essential administrative tool throughout the Third Reich, remaining with the serviceman except during active frontline deployment, when an alternative Soldbuch was utilized. These documents offer insight into the organizational structure, mobilization, and personnel management of the German armed forces during WWII, making them a relevant item for historical research and military collections.
