The Canadian Essex and Kent Scottish Officer’s Hair Sporran is an item of regimental dress associated with officers of the Essex and Kent Scottish Regiment, a Primary Reserve infantry regiment of the Canadian Army. This sporran features a body made from horsehair, traditionally used for formal dress in highland military units. The cantle is typically crafted from metal and may be adorned with regiment-specific insignia or simple decorative motifs, depending on period and rank. Three tassels, also of horsehair, hang from the front, in accordance with standard officer’s pattern. The sporran functions as a pouch and is worn at the front of the kilt, secured by a leather strap and chain belt. This piece reflects the continuation of Scottish military traditions within Canadian regiments and is used primarily for ceremonial occasions such as parades and official events. Its materials and construction are consistent with those prescribed for highland officers’ dress accessories.
