The WW2 British Distinguished Flying Cross Miniature Medal is a small-scale representation of the decoration awarded to officers and, later, also to warrant officers and other ranks of the Royal Air Force and other services, in recognition of exemplary gallantry during aerial operations against the enemy. Instituted in June 1918, the Distinguished Flying Cross features a silver cross with outstretched wings, a propeller design in the center, and the Royal Cypher of King George VI for the wartime issue. The medal’s ribbon is white with broad purple stripes, measuring approximately 16mm in width for the miniature version. Miniature medals such as this were typically worn on mess dress or formal civilian attire as an alternative to the full-size medal. This item represents the historical valor and contributions of British aircrew during the Second World War and reflects the standards and motifs of military honors from the period.
