WW1 British BEF Bairnsfather The Fatalist Patriotic Post Card

This World War I British BEF Bairnsfather “The Fatalist” Patriotic Post Card depicts a well-known cartoon scene created by Captain Bruce Bairnsfather, an influential artist and humorist for the British Army. Produced during the First World War, this postcard features the character Old Bill, a gruff but good-natured British soldier, embodying the resilience and stoic humor of troops serving on the Western Front. The illustration, entitled “The Fatalist,” shows a moment of everyday trench life, often highlighting soldiers’ attitudes toward the hardships of war. Cards such as this were widely distributed and served both as morale boosters for the troops and as patriotic souvenirs on the home front. These original postcards are printed on standard cardstock, typically measuring approximately 3.5 by 5.5 inches. They provide valuable insights into wartime culture, propaganda, and the impact of popular media on both military personnel and civilians during the conflict.
