WW1 British BEF Fox Putties

WW1 British BEF Fox Putties are original examples of leg wrappings issued to British Expeditionary Force soldiers during the First World War. Manufactured by Fox Brothers & Co., these puttees were standard British Army uniform items from 1914 onwards. Made from khaki-colored wool, each strip measures approximately 108 inches in length and was designed to be wrapped around the lower leg from the ankle up to just below the knee. The puttees served to provide support, protection from mud and debris, and warmth in trench conditions. They feature a tapered design with reinforced stitching at each end and were secured in place with attached cotton tapes. Fox puttees are identifiable by the manufacturer’s markings and are of historical interest due to their association with the BEF during key campaigns on the Western Front. These items reflect typical uniform and equipment practices of British soldiers during the early 20th century.
