The Order of the Rising Sun 3rd Class is a Japanese decoration established in 1875 by Emperor Meiji. This full-size example dates from the World War II period and includes the original neck ribbon and presentation case. The decoration consists of a white enamel eight-pointed badge with radiant silver rays and red enamel sun disc, suspended from a traditional neck ribbon. The 3rd Class, or Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon, was awarded to military officers and civilians for distinguished achievements in international relations, promotion of Japanese culture, or notable contributions to public affairs. This particular set retains the original hinged wooden case, typically bearing Japanese characters and lined in silk and velvet for protection. The design and craftsmanship reflect the significance and prestige of the Order within Imperial Japanese society during the early to mid-20th century. The set represents a notable artifact for collectors of military and historical awards from Japan’s Showa era.
