The WW2 Australian Cut Down Lee Enfield Bayonet with Scabbard and Frog is a genuine example of modified military equipment issued to Australian forces during the Second World War. Originally designed as a longer blade for the Lee Enfield rifle, these bayonets were cut down to a more practical length as part of war-time adaptations, typically measuring approximately 8 to 12 inches in blade length after modification. The bayonet features a steel blade with a single edge and a prominent fuller, a steel crossguard, and wooden grips secured by two rivets. The accompanying steel scabbard is fitted with a metal mouthpiece and end cap, designed to securely house the shortened blade. Also included is the leather frog, which allowed the scabbard to be attached to a soldier’s belt for field use. Such modified bayonets reflect the logistical challenges and resourcefulness of Australian forces during WW2.
