Canadian Forces UN United Nations Somalia Full Size Medal With Ribbon

The Canadian Forces United Nations Somalia Full Size Medal with Ribbon is an official military decoration awarded to Canadian personnel who participated in the United Nations Operation in Somalia (UNOSOM I and II) between 1992 and 1993. The medal is circular and struck in a silver-colored metal, featuring the classic UN emblem—a world map surrounded by two olive branches—on the obverse. The reverse bears the inscription “In the Service of Peace” in both English and French. The medal is suspended from a characteristically light blue UN ribbon, with a central stripe of white flanked by two dark green edges, symbolic of the United Nations’ peacekeeping mission and the Somalian environment. This full size version reflects the standard sizing used in official Canadian Forces and UN awards. It represents participation in a significant international effort under the auspices of the UN, recognizing the service and contribution of Canadian personnel during the Somalia operation.
