The France and Germany Star is a British Commonwealth campaign medal awarded for operational service in France, Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, or Germany during the Second World War. This full-size Canadian version was issued to members of the Canadian military who served in these areas between 6 June 1944 and 8 May 1945. The medal features a six-pointed star design, made of yellow copper zinc alloy, with the Royal Cypher “GRVI” enclosed within a circlet inscribed “The France and Germany Star.” The reverse is plain. The ribbon is distinctive, bearing equal stripes of blue, white, and red, representing the national colours of the United Kingdom, France, and the Netherlands. Eligibility required entry into operational service on land or sea in the specified territories during the qualifying period. The France and Germany Star holds historical significance as a recognition of involvement in key campaigns leading to the Allied victory in Western Europe.
