British Army Pattern 51 Webbing Set

The British Army Pattern 51 Webbing Set is a load-carrying equipment system introduced for the British Army in the early 1950s. Developed as a successor to the 1937 Pattern web set, it was designed to meet the demands of post-war service, incorporating lessons learned during the Second World War. The set is constructed primarily from woven cotton webbing, typically dye-finished in a khaki or olive color suitable for various environments. Standard components of the Pattern 51 set include a belt, shoulder braces, ammunition pouches, water bottle carrier, small pack, and bayonet frog, all utilizing brass or alloy hardware for attachment and adjustment. The configuration enabled soldiers to carry essential gear in a balanced and accessible manner. Pattern 51 webbing saw extensive use with British and Commonwealth forces throughout the 1950s and into the early 1960s, before being gradually replaced by later systems such as the Pattern 58 webbing.
