The medal is made of silver and measures approximately 36 mm in diameter. The obverse features a representation of seven marching figures, symbolizing various branches of the Canadian military, surmounted by a maple leaf. The reverse displays the Royal Cypher of King George VI surrounded by the inscription “1939 CANADA 1945 VOLUNTARY SERVICE VOLONTAIRE.” The full-size medal is suspended from a distinctive ribbon with dark blue, red, and green vertical stripes.
