The WW2 Canadian The Burma Star Full Size Medal is an official military decoration awarded to Canadian service members for operational service in the Burma Campaign during the Second World War between 11 December 1941 and 2 September 1945. The medal is a six-pointed bronze star and features the Royal Cypher “GRI VI” (for King George VI) surmounted by a crown on the obverse. The ribbon consists of dark blue, orange, and dark blue stripes, symbolizing the sun, the British forces, and the Royal Navy. Eligibility for this medal required service in the Burma theatre of operations, including personnel from land, naval, and air forces. The Burma Star was instituted to recognize the challenging conditions and significant contributions made during the campaign against Japanese forces in Southeast Asia. This medal represents a tangible connection to Canada’s participation in one of the pivotal campaigns of the Second World War.
