This item is a matched pair of WW1 British BEF Royal Garrison Artillery shoulder titles insignia. These original insignia were worn by soldiers of the Royal Garrison Artillery serving within the British Expeditionary Force during the First World War. Shoulder titles served to identify the wearer’s regiment or corps, and were typically affixed to the upper shoulder straps of the service dress tunic. Each title is constructed from brass with the letters “RGA”, denoting Royal Garrison Artillery, fashioned in a curved, openwork design consistent with period manufacture. The reverse side retains lugs for securing to the uniform. The Royal Garrison Artillery was responsible for operating the army’s heavier guns, howitzers, and large caliber weaponry. Items such as these provide a tangible link to the history and organization of the British Army in the Great War. Measurements and patina are typical of authentic First World War era insignia.
