The WW1 Canadian CEF 63rd Battalion Number Shoulder Title Insignia Single is an original brass shoulder title issued to members of the 63rd Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force, during the First World War. The insignia features the numeral “63” in raised lettering, typically arranged in a distinctive pattern, and was intended to be worn on the uniform’s shoulder straps. The shoulder title identified the wearer’s unit within the CEF, aiding in organization and administration both in the field and while stationed in Canada. The 63rd Battalion, also known as Edmonton Battalion, was raised in Alberta and served in Europe before being absorbed into other units as part of army restructuring. This single shoulder title provides insight into Canadian military organization during the Great War and reflects the standardized insignia used by CEF battalions. The brass construction and attachment lugs on the reverse are typical features of original CEF shoulder titles from this period.  Marked P.W. Ellis and Co Ltd 1915.
