The WW2 German Mothers Cross in Bronze with Ribbon, full size, is a historical decoration originally instituted by the Nazi government on December 16, 1938. Officially known as the Cross of Honour of the German Mother (Ehrenkreuz der Deutschen Mutter), this award was presented to women in recognition of exceptional motherhood as part of state policies promoting large families. The bronze grade, as offered here, was granted to mothers with four or five children. The cross is in the form of a blue and white enameled Maltese cross, mounted with a central gilt medallion featuring a black swastika and the inscription “DER DEUTSCHEN MUTTER” (To the German Mother). The accompanying ribbon is blue with white stripes, consistent with the original issue. This decoration is a significant artifact representing the social and political values of the period and provides insight into the state-sanctioned honors system of Nazi Germany during World War II.
